Guardians of Pauatahanui Inlet oppose the application for subdivision.
Reasons for opposing the subdivision:
Pauatahanui village is zoned rural. This inhibits the higher density unplanned development in an area that is not served by the main sewage system. The five hectare limit on subdivision should be applied.
Lot3 is bounded by a small stream to the East. This stream flows into the Pauatahanui Wetland Reserve and is located a few metres from the soak zone of the proposed sewage system. The consultant’s report recommends any dwelling on Lot 3 be built well clear of the sewage soak area. This implies the area of contamination will be larger than the soak area indicated. There will also be larger volumes of liquid effluent associated with developments in the village area that are connected to the water mains.
Further subdivision within the Pauatahanui Village area should be dependent on the extension of the main sewage system into the village and a subsequent change to the village zoning.
Guardians wishes to be heard at future consent hearings on this proposed subdivision.
