INLET PHOTO COMPETITION TO CELEBRATE SEAWEEK 2006

The Guardians of The Pauatahanui Inlet are once again inviting residents of Porirua communities to enter their Sixth Seaweek Photographic Competition and so share in the national Seaweek 2006 celebration.

'Get those cameras clicking,' says GOPI President, John Wells. 'We are happy to once again give friends of the Inlet the opportunity to celebrate its special qualities. As in past years there will again be four classes, highlighting Nature, Recreation and Human Impact, and an Abstract Class to give rein to the more poetic in our midst who wish to explore patterns and the unusual and dramatic.'

'With the generous support of a range of local businesses, and the Head Office of Camera House Ltd in Auckland, three prize vouchers of $80, $40 and $20 will be available in each class. We are also awarding a prize for the best entry submitted by a young person under 18 years of age.'

'We are pleased to have the support of the Kapiti Camera Club in this venture, and they have nominated Mr Geoff Marshall to be the judge for this 2006 competition. He has recently in his own right had his photographic record of a visit to China displayed at Pataka.'

Entry forms are now available at Camera House in North City Plaza, at Whitby Pharmacy and Whitby Post Shop, at Rushes Bistro and Bar, at Palmers on State Highway One and at Mana and Plimmerton Pharmacies. GOPI wishes to acknowledge sponsorship support also from Whitby New World, and from Magpie, Sandbar, Cellar Room, Shear Art, Pizza Hut and BP Mana on Mana Esplanade.

The theme of this year's Seaweek is particularly relevant to the work of the Guardians and the participation of local families in the society's ongoing projects to sustain the health of the Pauatahanui Inlet. 'It is everyone's responsibility to protect Tangaroa's treasured progeny - Kei te matinitini te kawenga kaitiaki i nga taonga a Tangaroa.'

Entries close on Thursday 2 March and all entries will be displayed in Whitby Mall from Saturday 4 March and in Porirua City Library at Pataka for a further week from Monday 13 March. Entries and prizewinners from past competitions may be viewed on the Society's web-site www.gopi.wellington.net. An entry form can also be downloaded from the Society's user-friendly web-site. So 'Get those cameras clicking.'
