In spite of light rain and a forecast strong southerly 73 people turned up on Sunday 10 October to take part in the annual cleanup organised by the Guardians of Pautahanui Inlet and Keep Porirua Beautiful. They were given a map and directions where to go and where to leave their rubbish bags for later pickup. This meant that every area was covered.
After a couple of hours "picker-uppers" walked or drove back to Browns Bay Park where members of Plimmerton Rotary were busy cooking sausages. People had a chance to talk amongst each other and a priority were the results of the council elections which had been decided the night before.
Thanks must go to all participants for taking part; John Poppleton and Denis Ormsby from Keep Porirua Beautiful, Angus Langbein and his team from Plimmerton Rotary also to Alan Stroud Mana New World who provided all the food and the $50 Lucky Prize voucher. A real community effort!
Our next activity is our Triennial Cockle Count on November 13 and 14. Details on our website www.gopi.wellington.net.nz
