Locals muck-in again

Over 50 'clean-uppers' turned out in fine weather to take part in the annual rubbish removal day around the Pauatahanui Inlet recently.

Keep Porirua Beautiful co-ordinator, and co-organiser of the clean-up day with the Guardians of Pauatahanui Inlet, Kevin Jamieson said the event was a very useful complement to the regular Porirua City Council clean-up work around the waterway.

The inlet is the only large estuarine wetland in the lower North Island and a formally recognised outstanding regional landscape.

"It is very disappointing, to put it mildly, that people can still carelessly offload their assorted rubbish, let alone dump car parts and tyres, in such a beautiful setting", he said.

"It is not that difficult to dispose of surplus material properly."
