Committee Meeting Notes

22 November 2007

Notes on Committee meeting of 22 November

Cockle Count, 11 November - Thanks to good fortune with both weather and tide, and an excellent spirit amongst the 80-plus community-minded volunteers who turned out, the survey was completed by the end of the day. Preliminary analysis indicates cockle numbers are holding at the 2004 level and the number of juveniles has recovered.

2008 Photographic Competition - Arrangements are in hand for the 2008 competition, with entries closing early March. We hope to maintain the momentum of the 2007 competition when there were twice as many entrants and prints as in the previous year.

Puketiro Wind Farm - Tony Shaw will attend the initial meeting of the Liaison group being established by consultants RES and report back to the committee at its December meeting.

Planning Issues - A range of issues were considered. The committee will probably support a PICT submission on Porirua City Council’s Porirua Development Framework. We noted that Plan Change 9 on Duck Creek development recognises our concern on maximum protection of the inlet. We approved a response on the PCC proposed sedimentation control measures extending supervision down to work at the level of the homeowner.

Camborne Walkway - Porirua City Council advised that they expect a reply from Historic Places Trust in three months about possible archeological sites, which could allow a resumption of planting activities in Autumn.

Committee membership - Julian Powell has taken up the Treasurer duties and Janet Ryan has become Membership Secretary. Alastair Harray submitted his resignation from the committee and Chair John Wells thanked him for his hands-on contribution to our activities and his organisation, with support from his wife Mary, of the stream monitoring programme.
