Pauatahanui Inlet Action Plan
Pauatahanui Inlet is the only large estuarine wetland left in the lower half of the North Island of New Zealand and is at risk mainly from human activities in its catchment. The Guardians of Pauatahanui Inlet (GOPI) was established in 1991 as an incorporated society to promote the recognition of the ecological, recreational and cultural values of the inlet.

2007 Cockle Survey The NIWA report on the triennial cockle count held in November shows that the total cockle population is similar to that recorded in 2004. The report is an attractive document with new features and good use of colour and provides an accessible summary of the findings of three decades. Copies have been lodged with Porirua Library, and with the relevant officers of PICT, GW and PCC.

2008 AGM
At the AGM on Thursday 26 June Jim Dearsly gave a very interesting talk on issues that he has been involved in as Chairperson of the Whitby Residents Association.

Wendy Edwards was elected as a new committee member.

Wind farm policy
We asked our members for their views on wind farms around the Inlet and have formulated a policy based on responses to our survey.

You can read the survey results and the policy that we have developed. We're confident that the policy reflects our members' views.
