email: wellsjm@xtra.co.nz
John is a Whitby resident and has been a GOPI member since 2000, but has had a long-term love affair with Pauatahanui Inlet. He has been on the GOPI committee since 2002 and became the Chairperson in 2003. John was a member of the School of Biological Sciences at Victoria University of Wellington for 25 years as a Professor of Zoology and then became Dean of Science, until retiring in 2001. His research interests are in marine ecology - some of which was done in Pauatahanui Inlet.
Julian Powell, Treasurer
Julian was elected to the GOPI committee at the 2007 AGM and volunteered for the role of Treasurer.
Ken Rae, Secretary
Ken is a GOPI member and cockle counter of long standing. He is in his fourth year on the committee, and his third as secretary. He is a resident of Camborne and a keen photographer who values the vistas of Pauatahanui Inlet. He is now retired after a career in education, the first half as a secondary teacher and the second half as a Department and Ministry official. Other local interests are Probus, croquet and the Methodist Church.
Wendy Edwards
Wendy has been a Whitby resident for 20 years and a member of GOPI since 2005. Now retired after a secondary teaching career, she has always been interested in the conservation of water, flora and fauna. She is keen to see this beautiful inlet maintained and enhanced for the future.
Priscilla Isaacs
Priscilla was elected at the 2006 AGM. She is active in helping to organise the annual photo competition and the cockle count.
Susan-Jane Owen
Susan joined the GOPI committee in 2005. She lives in Paremata and is a senior policy analyst for the Department of Conservation. She has a longstanding interest in the marine environment. Before moving to Wellington she edited and co-authored a comprehensive book on Christchurch's Avon-Heathcote estuary and Brooklands Lagoon.
Janet Ryan
Janet joined the GOPI committee after the 2005 AGM. She had been involved with stream monitoring for about a year when she was invited to join the committee. She is now the Membership Secretary. Janet has lived in Pauatahanui for almost 10 years, overlooking the inlet. She is interested in conservation generally, with a leaning to biological matters.
Tony Shaw
Tony was elected to the GOPI committee at the 2005 AGM. He has been involved in the stream monitoring programme since 2004. A Paremata resident for over 20 years, he is a data quality manager at the New Zealand Meteorological Service.
Ian Thompson
Ian's election to the GOPI committee at the 2007 AGM was prompted by his
involvement in the community planting days. Ian has been a Camborne resident
for more than 20 years. He is keen to see the health and beauty of the inlet
maintained and enhanced. He walks to work along the southern walkway almost
daily and loves to observe the array of bird and tidal marine life.
