Annual Clean-up

with 'Keep Porirua Beautiful'

In association with Keep Porirua Beautiful, the Guardians have been organising an annual community clean-up of the inlet since 1992. The clean-up is held on a Sunday morning in October or November, starting at Browns Bay in the morning and finishing with a barbecue lunch. The Plimmerton Rotary Club have also been major participants, providing volunteer rubbish collectors and making sure there's plenty of food.

The 2007 clean-up

The 2007 clean-up was, as always, a successful community effort. The clean-up was held earlier than usual this year, to coincide with Volunteers Week. We were joined by members of the Australian High Commission and their families, who made a most welcome contribution.

The weather was not kind, but clean-up volunteers are getting used to that - last year was no better, yet still our volunteers keep turning up.

As always, the morning's work was rewarded with a barbecue lunch cooked and served by the team from Plimmerton Rotary. Mana New World provided the food, along with the Lucky Prize voucher. This is a great community activity, supported and appreciated by the Council.

We managed to take some photos of the volunteers with their bags of rubbish and warming up back at the barbecue. Everyone still seemed to be smiling.
