ANNUAL PHOTOGRAPHIC COMPETITION

GOPI runs an annual photographic competition which is immensely popular with those who live around and visit the inlet. Originally set up as part of Sea Week, the competition is now a successful stand-alone event. It attracts generous sponsorship from local businesses. Winning photos are displayed in various venues around the city, including the Whitby and Porirua Libraries and Palmers' Lifestyle Centre in Plimmerton.

The competition is run in March, allowing for plenty of opportunity to capture summer fun and warm weather on the inlet. However, photos can be taken any time in the previous 12 months, meaning keen photographers have the chance to capture the Inlet's winter magic too.

There are several categories for open competition, as well as youth awards. In 2007, the categories were Human Impact, Reflections, Recreation and Nature. Winning photos captured everything from an image reflected in sunglasses to a delicate feather floating on water. Check out the 2007 winners, as well as winning photos from previous years.

Entry forms are available from local businesses and on this website at the beginning of each year.
